When talking of a holiday to Australia you would usually think of a couple of things; round the world trip, some kind of sporting tour holiday i.e. cricket or rugby or even maybe a month-long holiday taking in all the sights and sounds. But what you wouldn’t consider would be a widespread holiday around the whole of Australasia by cruise ship. A perfect way to see a wider area you may not necessarily think of, seeing locations and visiting countries not at the top of your list. I’ve picked out my top 5 things to see and places to visit on your Australasia cruise.
1. New Zealand
If you are a movie fan or just a love of great scenery, visiting New Zealand will have something for you. The northern island was location for the Lord of the Rings and the new Hobbit movies, with stunning mountain ranges, lush green hills and ‘The Shire’ all to see and rediscover. You’ll never get around the whole country on one little stop from a cruise, so either go to the North and see the scenery, or visit the South and take in the Victorian-themed cities and heritage.
2. The Gold Coast
A surfer or not, making a trip to Australia’s surfer’s paradise is a must when in the area. As part of a cruise along the east coast, in between stops from Queensland to Sydney, take advantage to see some of the best surfers in the country or if you’re feeling adventurous, grab a board, catch some waves and try it for yourself!
3. Tasmanian Wildlife
A short hop from mainland Australia and you’re in Hobart, with the whole of Tasmania (as small it is) ahead of you, with its unique and diverse wildlife. The infamous Tasmanian devil, the short-beaked echidna, and many other aboriginal creatures are all just within reach to see and interact with. A true wilderness and World Heritage area needing to be seen to be believed.
4. Fijian Paradise
White sands, clear turquoise waters and acres of orchids to lose yourself in; this really is paradise on earth. Taking the chance to step off your fantastic cruise ship after days travelling from Sydney between idyllic islands, either see the island of Fiji or bask in some of the greatest beaches on earth, wisata lampung. This is true relaxation, grab a cocktail or two, have some succulent seafood and lose yourself for a few hours before climbing back aboard and sailing off into the sunset. Could there be anything better?
5. Sydney
Most Australasian cruises start and end in Sydney, but you shouldn’t just use it as your transport hub; come and see one of the most iconic cities in the world. Some of the friendliest people on earth, throw in a couple of koalas and of course, the Sydney Opera House, the most recognisable building in the country. More sandy beaches to laze upon, as many museums as you could want & the gateway to the outback. Easily top of most lists of must-see places in Australia.
Now obviously these locations cannot all be done on the same cruise, they’re just ideas of where you can go on separate cruises. Hopefully they’ve inspired you to try out a wider Australasia and Pacific Islands holiday!
